Temperature Controlled Wine Store
Space Engineering were approached to supply and install cooling equipment for a wine storage facility in Central London.
As part of a larger storage facility, the designated level needed to be equipped with an energy efficient, future proof system, holding the room at +12°C. We selected an external glycol chiller and 12 internally positioned duel discharge coolers running from a control system with a common control panel.

The required calculated duty was 60kW so we installed a system with a cooling capacity of 62kW spread across the 12no coolers.

The packaged glycol chiller selected was ICS Aptus Modular ATFII 080. The unique design allowed for an ultra-compact footprint with the capability to connect multiple units together in a modular configuration, ensuring maximum flexibility.
The chiller incorporated:
- One independent refrigeration circuit
- Two scroll compressors
- Two steps of capacity control
- Dual pump high head pressure
- Buffer tank
- Stainless steel brazed plate heat exchanger
- Microprocessor controller with digital display
- Electronic expansion valve

In order to achieve the required room temperature, our design glycol supply temperature was +2°C with a return temperature of +8°C. The cooling medium is 30% Propylene glycol with the primary refrigerant for the external chiller being R454b
The coolers selected were 8no Kelvion three fan dual discharge coolers and four single fan dual discharge coolers. Additional coil heaters were fitted to each unit to allow for heating and dehumidification control. They also included:
- Dixell Temperature & dehumidification controller
- Visual temperature alarm
- Air & humidity sensors

The common control panel serving the 12no coolers included:
- IP 54 with neoprene moisture seal & formed rain gutter
- Door interlock isolator
- Room / Area Equipment title block
- Multi cluster L.E.D indicators
- Rotary control switches
- Full circuit breaker protection on all circuits
- Unique wiring schematics
- Auto dialer

A successful installation, ready for many bottles of premium wine, that can be sampled in the purpose built sampling room.
